Middle: Bishop Honesto Ongtioco celebrated the Mass of ordination and gave the homily. 

The Most Reverend Honesto Ongtioco, DD, Bishop of Cubao, ordained 11 Jesuit Scholastics from Indonesia, Italy, Korea, Myanmar, Vietnam and the Philippines to the order of the diaconate on October 24th at the Church of the Gesu, Ateneo de Manila University, in Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines. The newly ordained deacons are:

  1. Benjamin Thein Tun, SJ (Myanmar)
  2. Khaw Gei Khui Shing, SJ (Myanmar)
  3. John Thomas Kyaw Thu Win, SJ (Myanmar)
  4. Francis Xavier Hoang Trong An, SJ (Vietnam)
  5. John Pham Duy Anh, SJ (Vietnam)
  6. Michael Tran Gia Bao, SJ (Vietnam)
  7. Nikki James Rillon Lee, SJ (Philippines)
  8. Mamert Bancale Manus, SJ (Philippines)
  9. Joseph Park Minwoong, SJ (South Korea)
  10. Cesare Sposetti, SJ (Italy)
  11. Evodius Sapto Jati Nugroho, SJ (Indonesia)

Among the 11 ordinands, 3 were Jesuits of the Vietnam Province: Rev. Francis Xavier Hoang Trong An, SJ, Rev. Michael Tran Gia Bao, SJ, and Rev. John Pham Duy Anh, SJ. These newly ordained deacons are currently studying theology at Loyola School of Theology and living in the Arrupe International Residence.

Trong An, SJ, 35, studied Electronic and Telecommunications at Ton Duc Thang University in Hochiminh City, Vietnam. After graduation, he joined the Candidacy Program in 2005 and entered the Sacred Heart Novitiate in 2010. After his novitiate, he studied philosophy at St. Joseph Jesuit Scholasticate in Thu Duc, Hochiminh City. After finishing his 2-year regency, he moved to the Philippines to continue his theology studies at Loyola School of Theology.

Gia Bao, SJ, 35, hails from Hue, Vietnam and has a degree in Chemistry from Hue University of Science. He joined the Candidacy Program in 2008 and entered the Sacred Heart Novitiate in 2009. After taking first vows, he studied philosophy at St. Joseph Jesuit Scholasticate in Thu Duc, Vietnam. After finishing his 3-year regency, he was sent to Manila to study theology. He is finishing his STB at the Loyola School of Theology.

Duy Anh, 37, was born in Dong Nai Province. He studied Bachelor of Literature in Ho Chi Minh City University of Social Sciences and Humanities before joining the candidacy program in 2007. He was admitted to the Sacred Heart Novitiate in 2010, and subsequently studied philosophy at St Joseph Jesuit Scholasticate. He did his two-year regency in Da Nang Diocese before starting his theology studies at Loyola School of Theology.
