Two Vietnamese newly-ordained Deacons from the Arrupe International Residence

Lee Huen Kwan John, S.J., 37, was born and raised in Seoul. He studied biology at Konkuk University in Seoul. After graduation he joined the Society of Jesus in 2008, studied philosophy and theology at Sogang University and earned the master’s degree in philosophy. He did his regency in Sogang as a campus minister. He was influenced by his novice master Fr. Sin wonsik and his spiritual director Fr. Shim jonghyuck. After finishing his regency, he moved to the Philippines in order to continue his theological study and to earn a master’s degree in Pastoral Ministry at Loyola School of Theology at the Ateneo de Manila University. He is continuing his program of study.

Hyunbai Joseph Han, S.J., 36, was born in Seoul, South Korea and raised in Toronto, Canada. He immigrated to Canada when he was 14 years old. He studied economics at York University in Toronto. In 2008, Hyunbai joined in the Korea province of the Society Jesus. Fr. Sung Man Peter Jin, S.J. was influential in his vocation. After the novitiate in St Stanislaus Kostka, Suwon, Hyunbai studied philosophy and theology for three years at Sogang University in Seoul. Next he was assigned to Cambodia for his regency. He spent two years in Banteay Prieb in Phnom Penh. Banteay Prieb is a training center and home for young people with disabilities. He then studied theology at Sogang University for two years. Now he is studying theology in the fourth year at Ateneo de Manila University in Manila, the Philippines.

Pham Cong Tung, S.J., 33, was born and grew up in Dongnai province, Vietnam. He studied Oriental Study in Hochiminh City University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Saigon, Vietnam. In 2004 he joined the candidacy house of the Society of Jesus and in 2006 entered the Sacred Heart Novitiate in Thu-duc, Saigon. He took his vows on May 31, 2009. He studied philosophy at St. Joseph Jesuit Scholasticate in Saigon, Vietnam. After three years studying philosophy Br. Tung did his regency as an assistant to the minister and as a minister of Sacred Heart novitiate for two years. In 2014 he began his theology studies at Loyola School of Theology, Philippines.

Jung Hoikang Peter, S.J., 35, was born in Kwangju, southern South Korea.

When he was a college student he lived in China for six months. During that time, he met two Jesuits in a Korean Parish. From that moment, he wished to become a Jesuit. After his college graduation in 2008 he joined the Korea province of the Society of Jesus. After the novitiate, he studied philosophy and theology in Sogang University. Next, he worked for the youth with Jesuit companions as a regent. And then he went back to study theology in Sogang University. At the present, he is studying theology in Loyola School of Theology, Ateneo de Manila University.

Lucien Emil Susantha, S.J., 34, was born in Sri Lanka. After his advanced level education, he was influenced by Frs. Thushara Sampath, S.J., and Aniston Morais, S.J., and joined the Society of Jesus in 2005. After finishing the novitiate in 2009 in Daham Sihila, he studied Philosophy at Ampitiya National Seminary. He learned Carnatic music for two years while doing his regency in 2012. Emil arrived at Arrupe International Residence, Manila on May 15, 2014 to start Theology.

Kim, Ju-chan, S.J., 40, was born and raised in Yeongdeok, North Gyeongsang Province. He studied Electrical Engineering at Kyeongnam University (BS) and at Pusan National University (MS). After graduation, he worked for Korea Automotive Research Institute as a research engineer, before joining the Society of Jesus in 2008. After the novitiate in Suwon, he studied philosophy and theology at Sogang University (MA) in Seoul. Since June 2017 he has been studying his fourth-year theology in Ateneo de Manila University.

Anthony Nguyen Ngoc TriemS.J. 37, from Vietnam. He was born and grew up in Nghe An province, Northern and Central Vietnam. He studied Bachelor of Laws in Hue University of Science. He joined the Christian Life Community while studying at the university. He was admitted to the Sacred Heart Novitiate of the Society of Jesus in 2006. After taking the first vows he studied philosophy at St. Joseph Jesuit Scholasticate in Saigon. Next he served as an assistant to the secretary of the Province. After one year of his regency he was missioned to be assistant to the Director of the Candidate House. Now he has been studying his fourth-year theology at Loyola School of Theology, Philippines.
