Fr Mark Ravizza SJ, General Counsellor for Formation, visited and spoke with Jesuit prenovices and candidates in Vietnam on 9 March. In a warm and fraternal atmosphere, he led a conversation around the theme: “What Type of Candidate Does the Society Want?”
The desire to be a missionary has been with me since I entered the Society of Jesus in the Philippines in 2019, though I never imagined I would be sent to a prenovitiate in a foreign country for Regency.
Four Jesuits in Vietnam professed their Final Vows on 5 December in a solemn celebration held at the Chapel of St Joseph Jesuit Scholasticate in Thu Duc.
On December 3, 2024, the Society of Jesus in Vietnam celebrated the ordination of seven new priests at Hiển Linh Parish in Thủ Đức City. The ordaining prelate was Bishop Joseph Đỗ Quang Khang of the Diocese of Bắc Ninh. Concelebrating with Bishop Khang were Bishop Cosmas Hoàng Văn Đạt, S.J., Bishop emeritus of Diocese of Bắc Ninh, Provincial Superior Joseph Phạm Tuấn Nghĩa, S.J., priests from both within and outside the Society, along with nearly 1,500 faithful in attendance.

OUr implementation of the uaps
Universal Apostolic Preferences (UAPs) are the fruit of a process of discernment lasting almost two years. All Jesuits were invited to take part and in addition our mission partners. It concluded with a confirmation from Pope Francis in a special meeting with Fr General Arturo Sosa. The Preferences give a horizon, a point of reference to the whole Society of Jesus. They captured our imaginations and awaken our desires. They unite us in our mission. The new Preferences are four areas vital for our world today. The Society of Jesus will pay special attention to them in the next ten years. We invite you to learn more and take action with us! We want to make a Gospel difference.
