Three Vietnamese Jesuits Ordained as Deacons in the Philippines
Three Vietnamese Jesuits were among 17 Jesuits (from Myanmar, Thailand, Kenya, Tanzania, the Philippines, Korea, Timor-Leste, and Uganda) ordained deacons by Most Rev. Honesco Flores Ongtioco, DD, Bishop of Cubao on October 16, 2021 in the Church of Gesù, Ateneo de Manila University in the Philippines.
It is said that there are two ways of missioning a Jesuit. If he is talented he will be assigned to a mission where his talents are to be fruitfully used. If his talents are yet to become obvious, he is sent to a mission where they are to be discovered. I belong to the latter.
Aug 3 (Viejesuits) – From May 2021 until July 2022, the Society of Jesus celebrates an Ignatian Year to mark the 500th anniversary of the conversion of St. Ignatius of Loyola. To help the Jesuits of the Province, friends, benefactors, and those who are inspired by the Ignatian Spirituality deepen their spiritual life, the Jesuit Communications of the Province has created communications projects and programs as follows:
As of July 2021, Ho Chi Minh City, also known as Sai Gon, the biggest city of Vietnam, is the most-affected local with 45.561 confirmed cases. To curb COVID-19, local authorities in Ho Chi Minh have imposed lockdown measures due to the increased local COVID-19 activity. Thus, the poor and the homeless in this city have been strongly affected.
Every summer, after their academic year, Jesuit scholastics, both philosophers and theologians of St. Joseph Jesuit Scholasticate (SJJS) in Vietnam, are assigned to different parishes across the country to do their summer apostolic works. These summer assignments allow the scholastics to experience parish life or apostolic work to gain relevant and hands-on knowledge to complement Jesuit formation.
Jesuit Student Ministry of the Vietnamese Province in Can Tho city, Southern Vietnam’s Mekong Delta Region
Being the city directly under the Central government, Can Tho is a political, cultural and economic center of the Southern Vietnam’s Mekong Delta Region. This city attracts many young adults, including Catholics from neighboring provinces, to come here to study and work. To provide pastoral care for them, the Jesuits in Can Tho, have planned to coordinate with the local Church and other congregations, to gather and accompany them.

4 Universal Apostolic Preferences
Universal Apostolic Preferences (UAPs) are the fruit of a process of discernment lasting almost two years. All Jesuits were invited to take part and in addition our mission partners. It concluded with a confirmation from Pope Francis in a special meeting with Fr General Arturo Sosa. The Preferences give a horizon, a point of reference to the whole Society of Jesus. They captured our imaginations and awaken our desires. They unite us in our mission. The new Preferences are four areas vital for our world today. The Society of Jesus will pay special attention to them in the next ten years. We invite you to learn more and take action with us! We want to make a Gospel difference.
