At the Holy Mass on Nov 21, 2022 in St. Joseph Jesuit Scholasticate’s chapel in Thu Duc, Viet Nam, Fr. Joseph Pham Tuan Nghia, SJ, took over his office as the Provincial of the Vietnam province. Fr. Nghia was appointed to this ministry by the General Superior of the Society of Jesus, Fr. Arturo Sosa, SJ, according to the letter from Oct 18, 2022.
On October 18, 2022, Fr General Arturo Sosa, SJ appointed Fr Joseph Pham Tuan Nghia, SJ as the new Provincial of St. Francis Xavier Province of the Society of Jesus in Vietnam. Provincial-elect Joseph Pham Tuan Nghia currently serves as the rector of St. Joseph Jesuit Scholasticate (SJJS) in Thu Duc. The appointment was publicized on 27 October, 2022 by Fr Vincent Pham Van Mam, who has served as Provincial since 2016.
19 young men from three congregations (The Society of Jesus, The Spiritans, and The Missionary Community of Saint Paul the Apostle) were ordained to the diaconate on 8 October in the Church of the Gesù at the Ateneo de Manila University, Quezon City, Philippines. Of these, 14 were from the Jesuit conferences of Asia Pacific, Africa and Madagascar, and South Asia.
To celebrate 65 years since the return of the Society of Jesus in Vietnam at the invitation of the local Church and the 15th anniversary of the signing of the decree by former Superior General Fr Peter Hans Kolvenbach SJ elevating the Vietnamese Jesuit Region to the status of a province, the Vietnamese Jesuits have released an ebook that highlights the presence and apostolates of the Jesuit brothers.

OUr implementation of the uaps
Universal Apostolic Preferences (UAPs) are the fruit of a process of discernment lasting almost two years. All Jesuits were invited to take part and in addition our mission partners. It concluded with a confirmation from Pope Francis in a special meeting with Fr General Arturo Sosa. The Preferences give a horizon, a point of reference to the whole Society of Jesus. They captured our imaginations and awaken our desires. They unite us in our mission. The new Preferences are four areas vital for our world today. The Society of Jesus will pay special attention to them in the next ten years. We invite you to learn more and take action with us! We want to make a Gospel difference.
